Our Objectives

Dreams of the Tropical Youth Uganda is a youth-serving nonprofit organization established in 2016 to uplift the health and socio-economic wellbeing of the vulnerable and disadvantaged rural youth (adolescents and young adults, aged between 12 to 24 years) in Kyotera, Rakai and Masaka districts in rural Uganda. We implement a strategic and behavioural change communication intervention to encourage smart choices.

Our history

Dreams of the Tropical Youth Uganda is a youth-led and youth-centered non-governmental organization (NGO) dedicated to empowering vulnerable and disadvantaged rural youth. It was founded in January 2016 as a community-based organization (CBO) and later gained official registration with the National NGO Bureau in November 2017.

Our Vision

A community where less privileged rural young people lead healthy and fulfilling lives.

Our Mission

To build the capacity of the less privileged rural young people to enable them to recognize and use the resources around them for their holistic empowerment.

Objectives

Our Core Values

We strive to implement the principle of transparency in all that we do; we do this by being open to rights holders, stakeholders and partners. We believe that transparency will facilitate the building of mutual trust among stakeholders and partners as well as enhance cooperation.

We are responsible for the decisions we make and the actions we take. We are accountable to our constituents and donors by conforming to internationally acceptable financial management systems and giving them the opportunity to evaluate our performance. Accountability ensures a strong reputation for our organization.

We endeavor to be fair to all our constituents irrespective of religion, tribe, gender or political affiliation. The principle of justice and promotion of human dignity will be seen all through our operations.

We strive to involve rights holders and other stakeholders in the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of our interventions. Through promoting participation, we make our interventions more meaningful to those that we serve.

We believe in the provision of quality service. Quality assurance is at the forefront of our interventions and shall be reinforced, among others, through authentication of manuals and content, vetting participants’ delivery after training, ensuring that contractors use the right materials, mixture, etc. and ensuring quality of the services.

We ensure observance of professionalism in service delivery. We shall do this by targeting skilled staff for the implementation of our interventions as well as adherence to acceptable professional values and ethics. Professionalism will promote good quality for our interventions.

Pass on the SAALT Menstrual Health Program

In partnership with SAALT, a B.Corp-certified period care brand, Dreams of the Tropical Youth Uganda is implementing this program with a holistic drive that primarily aims to address the challenge of poor menstrual hygiene in Uganda’s rural learning institutions.

Orphans and Vulnerable Children Support

This program supports the welfare of orphans and vulnerable children. We identify the most vulnerable children and provide them with the opportunity to go to school, for meals, clothes, shoes, access to safe clean drinking water and basic medical care.

Holiday Boot Camp

We provide life skills training, sports and edutainment for at-risk youth that allow them to cope with challenges and move away from involvement in alcohol and drug abuse, violence and crime.
